ABOUT
The 17th Asian Television Drama Conference (ATDC 2026) is an international conference themed “From Asia to the World - Realization through Collaboration and Co-production.” It brings together drama production professionals from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss the latest trends and challenges in television drama.
The power to create images and stories is not merely a cultural activity. It is a source of soft power that communicates a country’s values to the world and helps foster empathy and trust.
The independent development of cultural industries is a foundation of economic security, and a strategically important national industry alongside manufacturing and energy.
ATDC aims to strengthen the global dissemination of content from Asia by creating a forum where Asian producers and screenwriters discuss issues and challenges in drama and the broader content industry, and cooperate in efforts toward solutions.

▌ORGANIZER
Opening Remarks

I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to the many visitors from both within Japan and overseas who have come to this 17th Asian TV Drama Conference in Matsuyama.
Matsuyama City has a history of 3,000 years and is a compact city packed with diverse locations like Dogo Onsen, which is said to be Japan's oldest hot spring. Moreover, we have Matsuyama Castle which is one of only twelve surviving castle towers from the Edo period, a townscape with trams running through it, and the tranquil natural beauty of the Seto Inland Sea.
The city of Matsuyama is blessed with an abundance of beautiful locations, perfect for the filming industry. This city has been the stage for many great hits, due to its exceptional sites. To give just a few examples, the NHK special drama "Clouds Above the Hill,” and the city's Botchan Literary Award Grand Prize winner "Ganbatte Ikimasshoi” (Give It All), both received extremely high acclaim. In these beautiful locations in Matsuyama, a setting for the story, films are taken and later adapted into anime and movies.
We offer an environment capable of accommodating a wide range of expressions, from period dramas to contemporary stories, including streaming dramas. Furthermore, the city actively supports production teams by arranging filming permits and suggesting locations in collaboration with relevant organizations.
As a city that cherishes literature, we aim to be a partner that supports the creative activities of all producers.
In closing, I sincerely hope this conference will inspire new stories to be born right here, in this very place.

Mayor of Matsuyama City

Writer, Scriptwriter, Director
To begin with, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your participation in the 17th Asian TV Drama Conference in Matsuyama.
For the first time since last year, the number of dramas made for streaming services produced more dramas than terrestrial broadcasting in Japan.
The influence of global streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon has brought about major changes in the work of drama producers and scriptwriters.
On the other hand, the rapid evolution of generative AI brings a realistic risk of copyrighted works worldwide being learned and imitated without permission.
We have an urgent responsibility to protect copyright and establish new systems.
While this environmental shift is a threat, it also presents an opportunity to expand our creative possibilities.
This is why we need to bring our knowledge together across national and regional borders to explore new forms of creation
from both systemic and the actual workplace environments.
